The Arab Federation of Engineering Industries held its General Assembly and Board of Directors meetings in Damascus on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, chaired by Mr. Mohammed Daaboul, with the participation of members from engineering companies across the Arab world.
In his opening remarks, Mr. Daaboul commended the Federation’s achievements over the past several years, particularly in reorganizing its internal structures and regional offices. He then welcomed members from outside Syria and encouraged them to propose initiatives to restore the Federation’s vibrant activities to their pre-pandemic levels.
Following discussions among members (both in person and via Zoom), a decision was made to form a committee of members to formulate the vision and objectives that the Federation will pursue, enabling the planning of activities that contribute to achieving these goals.
In accordance with the wishes of members in Syria, the attendees discussed annual fees and membership fees for new members. The General Assembly approved the cancellation of the membership fee and the standardization of annual fees into two categories: one for large companies and one for small companies. The attendees also agreed to attract leading representatives from prominent and active organizations as associate members for a nominal fee, thereby expanding the Federation’s partnerships within the Arab world and beyond. It is worth noting that the Federation plans to hold a meeting with the Secretary-General of the Council of Arab Economic Unity to present its new vision and objectives and to request support in communicating with decision-makers in Arab countries and conveying the voice of industrialists to governments. The Federation also plans to submit a proposal to the Council regarding an initiative to unify standards among Arab countries, which would support the objectives of the Arab Economic Unity Agreement by increasing intra-Arab trade.
The Director of the Federations Department/Representative of the Council of Arab Economic Unity, who participated in the meeting via Zoom, highlighted the Federation’s distinguished position among the specialized Arab federations operating under the Council’s umbrella. He affirmed that the General Secretariat of the Council of Arab Economic Unity is prepared to support the Federation in its endeavors and convey its message to governments through the Ministerial Council.
The Federation’s General Assembly decided to hold its next annual meeting in Baghdad. The Iraqi representative on the Board of Directors will propose a suitable date for the meeting and will coordinate with the relevant Iraqi authorities regarding entry visas.
At the end of the meeting, nominations were opened for the Board of Directors for the 2026-2029 term, and the members unanimously agreed on their representatives for the new term.
